The Long-lasting Debate regarding Women’s Rights

Yes, Islam gives rights to women. It also does define boundaries for each gender. It even alludes to some gender roles in order to have a stable family structure. It would be wrong to cross those limits, just like it would be wrong to lie, cheat, backbite, gossip, hurt someone, or look down upon someone who is sinning differently. Yes we must talk against immodesty without looking down upon individuals.

However, let’s accept that despite what Islam has taught us, misogyny does exist in our society. It’s affecting thousands of women everyday, and talking about the rights Islam has given would not help them; applying those rights would.

So let’s be “ummatan wasatan” and not go to either of the two extremes. Accept the problem, make effort to change the wrong in society, while staying within the boundaries set by religion.
