Slowing Down

Yesterday for the first time, my daughter climbed onto my back when I was in sajdah. I immediately remembered the famous incident about the Prophet SallAllahu ‘alayhi waSallam remaining in sajdah until his grandsons got off his back. So I decided to do the same. SubhanAllah, I realized an important message in that action of Rasool Allah SallAllahu ‘alayhi waSallam that I never realized by merely listening to it. I felt as if I was being taught to slow down and get at the pace of my daughter. Instead of rushing her through my schedule, I should let her be in the moment and in fact facilitate her in doing so. That is a powerful message for parents in a single action of the Prophet SallAllahu ‘alayhi waSallam. It is not only about compassion towards children; it’s also about slowing down.
