Life’s Tests

Life’s tests can get hard. Sometimes, it feels like someone has placed a big boulder on our chests. Every step taken to proceed through life needs immense effort and willpower. In such situations, we try to seek validation from other people. There are people who deliberately or unintentionally snub us and belittle our worries and tests. When they downgrade our problems, they also automatically belittle our efforts to function despite those problems. That is a very painful thing to hear. It leaves us bewildered as to why they cannot see the very visible boulder on our chests. On the other hand, those of us who are blessed to have loving and empathetic people in our lives get some support and strength through them. They empower us to deal with the first category of people.

However, something still feels empty inside. Why should it not? We are seeking support through people who themselves are absolutely weak and most likely battling through storms of life as well. They are mortal beings with extremely limited ability to understand our situation and have ever lesser power to change anything for us.

The emptiness leads some of us to the inescapable comparison mindset.

May be she is less stressed as a mom just because her child is healthy.

Well, anyone would manage to be on top of things with the support system she has.

What would she know how it feels to be under overwhelming financial stress.

Mothers have no idea how blessed they are. There cannot be any greater pain than fighting through infertility for years.

Only if she had multiple children, she would know what parenting really looks like.

The list is endless, and we all know the reality, but find it difficult to accept. The reality is that our observations, judgements, and assumptions about other people’s lives are extremely shallow, largely irrelevant, and most likely untrue. They don’t lesson our pain, nor do they help anyone else. In fact, they are likely to turn us into the first category of people who belittle the pains, trials, and efforts of others.

The only thing that can give solace to hearts, without leaving behind an ounce of emptiness, is turning to the Ever-Responding Lord, Al Mujeeb. Yes, He answers, and His answers are perfect, and based on absolute knowledge, wisdom, love, mercy and power!

Next time you feel the weight of life’s problems heavily in your heart, open the Book of Allah SWT and experience the sweet miracle of reading through verses exactly relevant to your situation and feelings, as if the Lord of the Worlds is looking at you and saying: “I have got your back”.

No wonder, Bilal radhiAllahu anhu also found strength through Al-Ahad, the Only One, when he had a boulder placed on his chest.
