Pandemic Early Reflections

I miss waking up on Wednesday mornings feeling like it’s going to be a busy and exhausting day. I miss driving to Redmond every Wednesday. Meeting fellow Muslim sisters and reciting Quran together is indeed an undervalued blessing. I also miss seeing my daughter enjoy her Mom n Tot class and singing rhymes with the children, teachers and mums. Listening to teacher Zainab’s recording singing ‘Assalamu alaykum Khadijah, we’re happy you’re here today…’ made me almost tearful.

The spread of coronavirus has made me realize the blessing of having a routine and feeling safe in that routine. We often underestimate the value of health, community support, and predictable daily and weekly schedules. It’s in times like these we realize that the mundane and ordinary was actually extraordinary and precious. Although we can never comprehend even a fraction of Allah SWT’s Hikmat in any situation, we become more aware in such situations that Allah SWT is indeed Al-Hakeem, Al-Hafiz and Al-Hafeez.

There are now discussions going on about having a great party when the masaajid open again. Hopefully, we would value the face-to-face interactions more when the pandemic is over. But even more importantly, I hope we would come out of it stronger in faith and elevated in terms of our good deeds.

May He SWT Enable us to pass this trial with success and afiyah. And may He be the Comforter of hearts that are experiencing situations and feelings beyond words. May He ease it upon everyone who is struggling in any way, be it physically, emotionally or financially. Ameen.
